Le 1er janvier 2016, me remettant des libations de la veille, je me suis installé sur le plancher du studio avec mon fils Aubert avec l’intention d’enregistrer quelques sons pour usage ultérieur sur cinq cymbales retournées sur le sol de béton. Au lieu de recueillir des échantillons sonores, mes micros ont capté une improvisation à quatre mains d’une profondeur imprévue. Aubert a 13 ans et une bonne oreille pour l’improvisation libre. Voici donc 20 minutes de bonheur père-fils à écouter sous casque, à volume modéré. Vous devriez avoir l’impression d’être avec nous sur le plancher du studio.

As the New Year set in and the New Year’s Eve libations faded out, I sat down in the studio with my son Aubert to record sounds using five cymbals overturned on the concrete floor. Instead of material for future sound sampling, what emerged was an unexpectedly deep-running four-handed free improvisation. Please listen on headphones at moderate volume – you should feel like you’re sitting on the studio floor with us. Aubert is 13 years old and has a keen ear for free improvisation.
